Police: Man Arrested After Bank Robbery In Nassau County With Child In Car

A 40-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly robbing a Long Island bank and attempting to flee with his 3-year-old child in the car, police said.

Suffolk County resident Philip Ferrito, age 40, of Smithtown allegedly robbed the Bethpage TD Bank in Nassau County shortly after 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

It is alleged that Ferrito approached a teller at the bank and passed a note demanding money, to which to teller complied, while Ferrito received an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing to his vehicle.

At the time of the robbery, police said that there were three employees and no customers inside the bank during the incident. No injuries were reported.

The subsequent investigation led police to Ferrito, who was located nearby and placed into custody without incident.

Police said that the investigation also found that at the time of the alleged robbery, Ferrito’s 3-year-old child was in the back seat of the car that he fled in.

Ferrito was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery and endangering the welfare of a child. 

He was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, Oct. 7 at First District Court in Hempstead.
